Mariano Gomezperalta has concentrated his practice in the areas of structured finance and international trade and arbitration.
Mr. Gomezperalta recently served as General Counsel of Mexico's Ministry of the Economy ("Economia"). In his position as General Counsel, he represented the Government of Mexico in WTO, NAFTA and other international trade and investment issues, including several investor-state and state-to-state arbitrations. He represented Mexico as lead counsel in government negotiations with the United States, China, Colombia, Peru and other countries and had primary responsibility for litigation proceedings before Mexican courts on matters relating to international trade and investment agreements.
Prior to acting as General Counsel of Economia, Mr. Gomezperalta focused his practice on aircraft finance and arbitration as a member of the robert wray PLLC legal team. He represented the Export-Import Bank of the United States in the document preparation, negotiation and closing of numerous guaranteed financings of Boeing, Sikorsky and Raytheon aircraft for airlines in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Romania, Vietnam, Singapore, Morocco and Senegal. He was also involved in the strategic planning and case management of a multi-million dollar arbitration against the Government of Belize.
As an associate at Holland & Knight LLP early in his legal career, Mr. Gomezperalta participated in a number of structured finance and privatization transactions, including the financing of a U.S.$485 million Liberian drilling rig and the privatization of the international airport in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Mr. Gomezperalta is a graduate of the Harvard Law School where he obtained a Master of Laws. He earned his law degree (Licentiate in Law) at UNAM University in Mexico City and completed a Licentiate in Economics at Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City. He is licensed to practice in the State of New York and Mexico.
